Conservation Easements

A conservation easement is a means for a property owner to retain ownership, while restricting the future use of the property to protect the conservation, or “open space”, value. The Green Foundation, as a qualified organization, can hold conservation easements that are determined to be consistent with the Foundation’s mission.

By donating a conservation easement to the Green Foundation, a landowner may realize significant federal and state income tax, federal and state gift tax and local real estate tax benefits.

Landowners conveying a conservation easement continue to own, use and control their land, and can sell it (subject to the easement), gift or bequeath it to their heirs or devisees. In this way, landowners can preserve a property for their family or others while benefiting the community.
