The Green Foundation has acquired three new properties, now totalling 21 properties preserved and maintained as green space, open space, or woodlands throughout Newport News. Two of these new sites were fully donated and one partially donated to the Foundation for the benefit of the community. These properties are: 1 Woodhaven Road; 491 Lees Mill Drive; and 496 Lees Mill Drive. See "Properties Preserved" for additional information.
The Green Foundation has partnered with "Kidsville" Newport News, reaching 20,000 elementary school children and families, to provide monthly educational articles relating to the environment, conservation, and the Foundation's mission.

The Foundation now maintains 21 properties, totalling 25.26 acres, throughout Newport News. Many sites are identified with white signs depicting the Newport News Green Foundation logo, indicating when the property was acquired, and whether it was donated or purchased.
In the fall, a number of these signs were beautifully landscaped with evergreens, bushes, and flowering plants, further enhancing the beauty of our community. You can help make this possible by funding the cost for landscaping materials at one of the sign locations (estimated at about $3,000 for each area). Keep a look out as you travel the City.
Other properties maintained by the Green Foundation may not have the identifying sign. This is because these sites either first need to be cleaned up and landscaped, or it is a forested site where a sign would disturb the beauty.
The Green Foundation has established 4 community groups to encourage and enable citizens, businesses, and organizations to get involved or to support the work of "preserving a greener future" for Newport News. See Support the Foundation on this website for more information on how you may help through one of these community groups:
