Donating Property

As a nonprofit organization, the goal of the Green Foundation is to acquire property through donation when feasible for the owner and consistent with the mission of the Green Foundation. A donation of property to the Green Foundation may provide significant tax benefits for the owners and may be achieved through various means, for example, an outright gift or bargain sale.

The Green Foundation can provide assistance and financial illustrations on potential tax benefits and how a gift of property may benefit the community. For information call the Green Foundation, at 757-597-2842 or email us for information.

Conservation Easements

A conservation easement is a means for a property owner to retain ownership, while restricting the future use of the property to protect the conservation, or “open space”, value. The Green Foundation, as a qualified organization, can hold conservation easements that are determined to be consistent with the Foundation’s mission.

By donating a conservation easement to the Green Foundation, a landowner may realize significant federal and state income tax, federal and state gift tax and local real estate tax benefits.

Landowners conveying a conservation easement continue to own, use and control their land, and can sell it (subject to the easement), gift or bequeath it to their heirs or devisees. In this way, landowners can preserve a property for their family or others while benefiting the community.

Many of the Green Foundation properties are professionally landscaped. If you are interested in sponsoring a landscape contract to keep our properties beautiful please contact us.
